ONHUR is made from two words.

Onh is Coptic for “life”, and also for “to live” (in another Coptic dialect, it is onkh). It comes down from the ancient Egyptian word the ankh stood for.

Nur, said noor, is Arabic for “light”.

The name joins life and light.
